Closed Loop Reporting in a Pay Per Use business

Does anyone have a best practice for the implementation of Closed Loop Reporting in a Pay Per Use business?

 

We are just getting started with Eloqua, and our business is such that we don't acquire revenue until the clients use our product. If they never use it, we don't make a dollar. Where Eloqua will help is on those using us sparingly with room for growth.

 

So how do we set up Closed Loop Reporting to accurately track revenue generated from a campaign when there's no immediate revenue? We are using Salesforce for opportunities. The only way I can see to do this is to record cumulative revenue against the Closed Won opportunity updated monthly, with Closed Loop Reporting set to (eg) 12 months in advance. Or create a Speculative Revenue field and let the CLR report off of that field.

 

How are other Pay Per Use / Pay as you go businesses setting this up?
